"No life is a waste" the Blue man said. "the only time we waste is the time we spend thinking that we are alone".
-the five people you meet in Heaven, Mitch Albom
Another great quote by the blue man. Want to know why he's called the Blue Man? Go read the book.
Chem practical yesterday was an awful disaster, really. First thing: after I painstakingly washed the burette three times and positioned it on the retort stand with the beaker below it, I poured BA21 in and lo and behold, it started to leak!! And the strange thing is the clip had been working fine when I washed it, and I hadn't touched the silly thing. So Dyllis was very nice and shared her BA21 with me, thank God.
Next: My fateful attempt to light the Bunsen burner. Mind you, this lab is new and the gas tap looks different too. So air-headed me happily turned the gas tap to the max, picked up the lighter and CLICK BOOM I totally had a mini explosion at my table. Of course I was shocked beyond words (I didnt scream or anything) and I retreated (duh) and knocked the cylinder over. pak. Nice Dyllis had to help me turn the bunsen burner for the next 2 or three times due to my temporary phobia of BBs.
Next: Was supposed to heat the solution of 10ml BA21 and 100ml water to about 45 deg. Didnt watch it very carefully so the temperature rose to 58. (!) Well, fine. Had to run the beaker under cold water to cool it down. The best part - when the temp was already about 48, my hand slipped and water splashed into the beaker. This of course deemed me desperate, and I made a pact with Jiuhui that actually worked out quite well.
Of course, every story of misfortune has a drastic ending. While washing up, one testube rebelliously decided to dislodge itself from the testube rack and pak on my shoe and ping on the floor. Had to get a broom and dustpan to clean up, and had to register under the "broken items" list.
And its only the first chem prac of the year. God bless me!
